Today, more FCI groups and even more than that😉
GROUP VI: Scenthounds and related breeds
These are noses on four paws. Just as we are visual, the dogs of this group are olfactory dogs of the purest water.
Friendly, kind, often loves caresses and cooperation with man. They rarely come into conflict with other dogs. However, some may treat small animals like prey to hunt (although any dog of any breed can chase a cat or squirrel). The hunting instinct can sometimes prove more decisive than obedience. Therefore, it is worth investing time in bringing the recall command to the perfect level. This will give us a chance to recall the dog that has stepped on the trail successfully.
In GROUP VII we find pointers and setters.
So we remain in the world of hunting dogs. The task of the dogs of this group is to point out the prey.
Representatives of this group are lively, loyal, and joyful. Friendly both towards people and other dogs. A strong hunting instinct can sometimes cause difficulties with summoning, so it is worth taking the time to learn this command to an excellent degree.
In GROUP VIII, there are retrievers, flushing dogs (mostly spaniels) and water dogs.
Sociable, loving both people and other dogs. Willing to cooperate with man and train. They love caressing and carrying various objects in their mouths. However, fetching is in their blood, so you have to be careful with throwing the ball to avoid getting your dog addicted to this round object. Remember that the dog also needs social contact, free exploration, and running.
It’s true that with the ball, you can easily ensure that your retriever does not see anything else but you. This is often very convenient (just like a child addicted to iPad games). By focusing exclusively on one thing (ball/tablet), other elements of the outside world do not attract the individual’s attention. Thus, this excludes the risk of many troubles caused by disobedience, entering into conflicts with representatives of the same species, etc. It’s just that the lack of social contact is destructive and impoverishing. Both for children and for dogs.
GROUP IX: companion and toy dogs
We find here mostly representatives of small and medium-sized breeds. The group’s name may suggest that these small dogs are only suitable to be hugged and carried in handbags. However, remember that despite the small size, it did not change their basic needs. Representatives of this group also need contact with other dogs, free exploration, and intellectual challenges.
The willingness to cooperate with a man will vary significantly depending on the breed. For example, a French bulldog or pug can quickly get bored and only allow further cooperation if we hit his taste with the exercises we choose. On the other hand, the poodle is one of the most intelligent and eager to train dogs. Usually underestimated because of the sticky label of a stupid dog – whether because of unusual hairstyles or belonging to the IX FCI group.
GROUP X: sighthounds
These are speedy dogs with a very light physiques. This is the only FCI group that is not suitable for working on a longer trace (due to the proportions of the body: too long legs in relation to the length of the neck).
You can say that these are dogs for lazy people. During the walk, they must take care of their physiological needs and run fast, not very long, distances. If you live near a meadow or on the edge of the forest, you only have to unfasten the leash and let the sighthound run back and forth as much as it needs. Long walks can bore him. These are not very eager to play with other dogs, although they rarely encounter conflicts. Sometimes they give the impression that they are “above” other dogs’ company and live in their own world, inaccessible to others.
These are dogs who value the warmth of a heated bed. At home, they are trouble-free – they do not bark or lose too much hair.
They do not show a particular need to cooperate with men.
The biggest problem may be convincing the sighthound to go for a walk on a rainy or cold day.
If you are counting on long walks, it may turn out that you will take them alone – after putting your sighthound home shortly after its crazy run.
MULTIRACIAL DOGS
They are super dogs.
Each of them is different, and each of them is great.
They are characterized primarily by good health.
Due to the unlimited possibilities of genetic mixes, it is impossible to present their typical character traits.
Carefully look at your mongrel.
In dogs, appearance is somehow coupled with character traits. If the dog is a “type” of a breed – in behaviour, one should expect similar behaviours typical for this breed.
